Five weeks passed so quickly as I worked and played in the mountains of Argentina. It was transformative and unpredictable; time in the wilds gave me space to explore completely new materials and ways of working. More on this very soon! But for now, an invitation:
This Friday: Miami Tarot Exhibition opening
What is your relationship to magic?
April 26 - 28, 2024 | The Center for Black Innovation
Friday, April 26, 6-10P
Saturday, April 27, 12-6P
Sunday, April 28, 11A-3P
Please join me this Friday for the Miami Tarot Exhibition—commissioned and curated by Gaby Garcia-Vera & Zee Lopez Del Carmen; produced in partnership under Flamboyán Consulting.
The show is free and open to the public; please RSVP here.
Last summer, I met one of the curators for this show, the wonderful Zee Lopez Del Carmen, during a dinner hosted by Base, which organizes gatherings of artists, scholars, and leaders. Zee and I connected that night through a discussion of how art can provoke meaningful conversations across communities; we knew immediately that we’d stay in touch. After visiting my studio a couple months later, she and co-curator Gaby Garcia-Vera invited me to create artwork for this pop-up exhibit.
They selected a specific card for each artist, asking us to respond to the meaning in the image. I was assigned Number 17, The Star. I’m honored to be included in this project and cannot wait to see how each of the 36 artists interpret the visuals and symbolism of their cards. After the exhibition, the artwork will live on in the the form of a Miami Tarot Deck.
Locust Projects Spring Fling
Over the weekend, I was happy to participate in Locust Projects’ annual fundraiser event—my artwork Remnants: Blood-Moon sold in the silent auction so I’m thrilled that it will be in a new home very soon.
