Moving, transforming, in the void
Flow to the roots and down into the depths—select works from the "Remnants" series
As the year comes to a close, I wanted highlight some of my pieces that were exhibited during Miami Art Week 2023. It was a beautiful, having the opportunity to share these works with the thousands of people that attended the fairs—and so I wanted to share them with you, here, as well. See below!
Special note to my Substack readers—I’m holding an end-of-year studio sale, offering 15% off all fine artwork now through December 31st. There is so much new artwork in development now, that I must make some space so I can continue working! Most of the pieces featured in this newsletter are available for purchase, so please take a look at available artworks here.
Remnants
The Remnants series is a mixed-media exploration of energy, form, genesis, decay, loss, and regeneration. Utilizing monotype printng techniques and some less-typical materials such as ashes, the series depicts abstracted elements of the environment in South Florida, and reflecting on ways in which death and rebirth are present in nature at all times.
The series began as a means of using up leftover printmaking ink, but became a full-on experiment with new materials and processes. Letting energy move and flow without the slightest idea where it might lead. Allowing the works to tell me what they wanted to become. Bringing them into the light when the gestation was complete.
In the silt, in the Shade, underneath it all, there is Life itself.
Insomnia Landscapes
A few years ago, I was really struggling with insomnia. When sleep didn’t come, I learned to get out of bed and go to my studio—I made these hazy landscapes in the middle of nights when my overactive mind wouldn’t let my body rest. The vagueness, softness of these pieces let me work slow and fuzzy, eventually drifting back toward a sleep state.
